Following up the work of Freud, Pavlov, and Selye, the author presents a theoretical model for the explanation of psychosomatic disturbances which seeks to do justice to subjective as well as objective determinants, especially to the subjective constitution of so-called »stressors«.

Die Versuche der französischen psychosomatischen Schule, die Entwicklung einer »pensée opératoire« theoretisch zu rekonstruieren, werden unter verschiedenen Aspekten untersucht: U.a. wird gezeigt, daß ihre theoretischen Bemühungen in sich widersprüchlich sind und zu Widersprüchen mit psychoanalytischen Grundannahmen führen.

The attempts made by the French school of psychosomatics to reconstruct the development of the »pensée opératoire« on the theoretical level are scrutinized under certain aspects. This theorizing proves to be contradictory in itself and also to stand in contradiction to basic tenets of psychoanalysis.

Simons These ist, daß jegliche Logik sich in der Dialektik von Lusz- und Realitätsprinzip entwickelt – auch die Logik psychotischen Denkens, deren Strukturen er zu erschließen sucht, indem er die präverbalen Strukturen der Logik in der Entwicklung des neugeborenen Kindes (re)konstruiert.

Preverbal structures of logicThe logical structures which underline our thoughts and actions develop out of a preexistent system of communication and relationships. They are expressed in the sign and rule systems which correspond to this communication system, and they are codified in our language (Whorf and Lacan). Simon argues that all logic develops out of the dialectic of pleasure and reality principles. This includes the logic of psychotic thought the structure of which he seeks to reveal by reconstructing the preverbal structures of logic in the neonate.
